Cleverlotus Design - Melanie Boyle

Artist's Statement

"My background is in printmaking and painting, and I have always had a love of gardens and travel. While studying traditional landscape painting in China many years ago I began to learn about the folk art of Chinese papercuts - bright red paper silhouette pictures and writings intended to bring happiness and luck during the Lunar New Year. I have since adapted this technique to explore my interest in the graphic arts and my Chinese heritage.

My handmade cards and limited edition prints integrate papercutting technique with drawing, printmaking and digital processes. The framed original works, in deep shadow boxes, explore concepts of screen and pattern. All of my works express my appreciation for the beauty of form and balance in the world of plants and flowers.

Originally from Vancouver, Canada, I now live in Ann Arbor, Michigan and work out of my studio, Cleverlotus Design."
