Shine! - Cecile Green

Artist's Statement

"I love color and texture, shape and contrast, combination of light as it flows off and through these magical little bits of life we call beads. So many from so far away… I feel as if I am weaving the world together, piece by piece, bit by bit…gemstones from India, seeds from south America, glass from Turkey. When I get a piece of jewelry ‘right’ it is as if it has struck a bell within me and I can breath in that resonant music of light and shape. It is my hope that these qualities reside in the pieces I have created and have the capacity to amplify the same in any wearer.

I create jewelry by attending to a feeling within myself and watching what touches and amplifies that space as I select the various beads and findings, including all their textures and variations. Each change can produce great or subtle effects on the capacity of the piece to collect itself into a vibrant community of color capable of striking a rich and compelling chord in my heart. I know a great piece if I have fallen in love with it!

My jewelry grew out of my life long love of making things with my hands and the years I have spent as a landscape designer refining an aesthetic of space, texture, and color through designing and building hundreds of gardens into spaces of sanctuary. I discovered beaded jewelry gave me a chance to play with these same qualities of creativity in a much shorter time span! So I am inviting to life in my jeweled creations the same sense of awe and happiness that grew in those gardens. I am encouraging small, still bits of light and texture to come together in an ecosystem of resonating color, blossoming on the human form, giving my clients a chance to participate more deeply in their experience of what it means to Shine!"
